EMPLOYEES as Dez stated. I don't know about how it is where you work, but if I were to protest anything in anyway that brought a bad light to the company I work for while representing the company I work for, I would be fired on the spot.
As professional athletes, they are afforded a huge stage. They are followed almost daily and could "bring awareness" to any issue they wanted by simply calling a reporter. If they do it on their own time while outside the arena of their "job", it would be received much better.
There is a reason the network ratings and ticket sales for NFL games is tanking.
