Emily quietly wipes her hands clean and looks to Black and the 2 witches.

Uh, do you wanna do all the talking Black, or what?

I'll do what I can.

Black turns around and faces the two witches.

He says Wow I haven't seen you two since, since...

Marla interrupts him Since what?

Since I... burned down your workshop. I never really got to apologize for that. I'm sorry. It was a mistake.

Marla frowns but motions them in.

So, my friend here is a witch too, and she thinks she can beat you in a golem-making contest. The two witches stop. Marla raises an eyebrow, Thelma just laughs.

Do you want to know what happened to the last person who challenged us to a contest? Thelma says. They finish the sentence together in unison. They were deemed unworthy of living and were removed from the mortal world. Marla says They are still trapped in purgatory, last time I checked. That was what? 200, 300 years ago?

Emily shrugs

So, you 2 are sore winners then? Regardless, I do believe that I can beat you in golem making. So long as all sides are given equal tools and resources that is.

Emily thinks for a moment

Also we would need to agree on a neutral judge, and how we define the contest. Do we go with who can make the most golems in the shortest time? Or who can build the biggest? Strongest? Also, would it just be me against the both of you? That would not be very fair. I suppose I could get my sister to join in, but golem making is not something she is good at, so she'd probably slow me down.

Regardless, you can decide the rules of the contest. If I think they are fair we can have a go at it.

She looks to Shade and snaps her finger

Ah, perhaps for a suggestion for a contest, we could both build a golem for Shade here to inhabit. Whichever makes the one he likes the most wins. I'll let you decide if you want to do that for a contest, or something else.

You need MATERIALS to build golems? Ha! Little girl, you have already lost. Marla snickers. But if still want to try and beat us, we can get you some play blocks.

Emily rolls her eyes as she waves a hand and a stone golem forms

Using raw magic to make golems while faster and doesn't use resources, is lazy and less fun-plus it's a lot more taxing on one's mana.

Emily's eyes light up as she looks to her mud golem and gently rubs it

Besides, there are few things as satisfying and pleasant as taking raw materials, with one's own hands and sculpting a new being from them. The fact that you 2 old crones are too lazy to do so just tells me you don't have the same appreciation of golem making that I do.

She glares at them and looks at their hands showing them hers

You 2 don't have the hands of a crafter. You have the hands of those who use magic for most of their work. See all these callouses, and cuts on my hand? Those are the hands of a true creator. Not the hands of a lazy conjuror. Now if we are done with the insults, do you wish to have a contest or not? Feel free to go about the lazy way if you wish. I intend to use raw materials and actually sculpt my creation.

Fine. Marla glares back. Do not underestimate me. I will defeat you, and then you will join the others in purgatory where you belong!

Thelma elbows Marla. Don't you think that's a little extreme? This can be just a friendly competition. Anyway, why keep callouses around when I'm not using them? I can grow some any time I like!

Thelma holds out her hands, which begin to become hard and used-looking.

If you insist, we can make our golems out of a block of iron. Marla holds up her hands, and a few seconds later three large blocks of iron, each one about the size of a small piece of furniture.

We each have 30 minutes. You may use whatever materials you want, but it is required for you to use this iron. It is me versus you versus Thelma. Your undead friend can decide who won.

Emily shrugs as she set's a clock on her wrist

Well, I think he wanted steel, but we can alter that later. Besides, Iron is a bit easier to sculpt. Also if you did dump me in purgatory, pretty sure my sister or other family member would take me out. Assuming I couldn't get out myself. Purgatory isn't exactly that hard to get out of frankly. Regardless let's get started.

Emily digs through her robes and takes out some tools before stepping back and looking hard at the iron before setting to work mumbling to herself

Got the golem in my mind's eye, now to bring him to life. I'll show these 2 what it means to really put yourself into your creations.

After around 20 minutes, she's finished the most of the golem, 7 feet tall and very masculine. She checks her watch and calls to her mud golem

Surround me and my new work while I use my secret technique. This will win the contest hands down.

She smiles wickedly

Meanwhile, Thelma and Marla were busy sculpting their own masterpieces.

Almost done... Says Marla, I just need to add the secret ingredient.

She summons a wall of dirt around her. At the same time Thelma summons a dirt wall around herself, too. A few moments later they both call together Time's up!

The mud golem shifts aside and Emily stands looking proud but tired. Her golem is 7 feet is shaped like Shade, but otherwise looks normal. Emily gives a polite bow and a smile, and gestures for the other witches to go first.
