Contest: Newcomer's Guide

Postby Captain Jack » Wed Sep 18, 2013 1:11 pm

Greetings all,

I am declaring a contest; Write a guide for Newcomers and post it up in HELP section.

At the end of October (October 31 but we might give an extra week if asked), we will review them. The best will be posted at the in-game HELP index (alongside with more, if more than one are found good) and the one who wrote it will win a prize starting from 250 Credits and up to 2500 Credits.

The prize will be decided on the quality of the Guide itself (the winning one). We might hand out more than 1 prizes. We will definitely hand 1 prize of at least 250 credits.

Here are some tips to increase quality of your guide:
A)Use Images, screenshots or even videos.
B)Post as many posts you think it is needed - packing it all up in a single post might not be a good idea.
C)Make good usage of bold, italics, partagraphs, font sizes/colors etc in order to make the guide as more readable as possible.
D)The more you cover up, the better.
E)You might want to include guides for medium or advanced players in the same topic or a new one. They will still count in the final review as long as there is also a newcomers guide written by you.

So, simply put, do your best and you will be rewarded.

Obviously thats not the whole case here, mate. There was a topic not the long ago where some people complained there ain't enough ways to get credits in the game, I don't think that. This might be a way of resolving some of that, but really it's to help the new players, such as you i'm guessing. So don't hate on the moderator, I like this idea. I might type something up but i'm not sure yet.

Don't get it wrong; I will explain to you.

We want a really good guide and truth is that we are not really capable of creating such ourselves. Especially a newcomer's one. We already have huge difficulties on understanding where new players stuck. There is no better writer than a player in such. Therefore, this is why we created this contest.

I would also want to add that all this current development time aims into making the game more newcomer friendly. So while we implement things in-game, players could also help with guides. For this valuable service to the game, we will award the players who try, with credits. It is a fair trade I think.

Finally, welcome to the forums.

What resources and how many turns/gold do new players start with?
I'm a canny one
Scourge of the Seven Seas
Sink anyone's galleon
To murder my enemies
Whether he's been stabbed in a back street
Or a vast sea attack by the Black Flag fleet

All newcomers start with the following:

-A Lvl 2 Warehouse at their starting port which contains:
*320 Wood
*120 Iron
*32 Tools
*100 Cotton
(You might want to check #4 Merchant mission Warehouse in Aiora )

They also get:
*1 Captain
*1 Admiral
*1 Merchant
*50 Influence points in their starting port

They receive a starting ship and some gold according to their background choice, as shown below:

A)Privateer Captain receives 1 sloop and 2000 gold coins.
B)Noble receives 1 cutter and 3000 gold coins.
C)Merchant receives 1 Howker and 5000 gold coins.

Every ship is level 1, has no crew members but carries 2 cannons.

Finally, all newcomers start with 400 turns and they earn 25 turns and 10 000 gold coins once they use their first 100 turns. (Plus all mission rewards which are given right after every mission completion as shown here).

Please, do not post your guides here.

Post it up in HELP forum. Like:

Code: Select all
Majesty's Newcomer Guide

or

Code: Select all
Spastic's Newcomer Guide

I will split Spastic's guide into a new one and move it to Help forums.

Greetings everyone,

Right now, the only guides eligible for the contest, are the ones written by Spastic:
How-to Guide: Quartermaster Missions by Spastic
How-to Guide: Pirate Missions

If you have a guide and want to also participate, post it up in A NEW TOPIC in HELP thread.

I am giving an extension of 15 more days for the contest. This means winners will be selected in November 15. I am doing this because I want greater participation.

Especially I am looking for someone to create a video with all the tutorials. If he is a native speaker, the best. In this case just upload to youtube and share the link.

As I already said, we will try to reward sufficiently all efforts even if they rank poorly in the competition final results. So give it a try ;)
