that really isn't long for a species to survive, i hope you know that. humans are still new to this world in terms of length of time here

Genetic Engineering could be a common job in the future.

I also remember hearing that scientists believe that one reason why earth like planets are so rare, is they believe we are among the first 10% of potential life bearing planets to form. in other words, we showed up pretty fast.

that's the thing really. time is strange in that it changes based on your perspective.
a 10 year old kid, when told he needs to wait 1 year for something will think that's a really long time. its one tenth of his life hes lived so far he has to wait.
a 100 year old man will probably be fine with it. its just 1% of the life hes lived.
if we gained immortality, a million year old man, would consider a year to be incredibly short.

You should go look into time perpective of life, they say that the older you are time seems to go faster.

Good question, but being immortal doesnt mean you cant die, altho in that kind of time, sickness would be cured very fast or there could be no sickness at all and so, one can live very long, getting killed as a space pirate and such would happen even if your immortal.

Having no more sickness creates a new problem in its self, there was onces a experiment on a rat, they took a rat to a small box with food and such the box was germless and dirtless, and after the experiment was over, the rat's organ and heart was 50% smaller then normal rats.

Acting smart, I do, maybe.
