And then...thunderous bursts of artillery shook the tense air, as mortars lobbed huge payloads from within the walls of the silent black fortress, blasting several Lydriatic emplacements into oblivion. The response was swift and merciless as the remaining emplacements fired with an thunderous boom, aided by magic to fall right into the holes the mortar fire had come through, obliterating them.

Eloth and his golems, charge forward, spreading out to make sure any large blasts will only hit a few of them. Some golems carry large war drums on their back which pound with every step, the noise is like a stampede of elephants and crashing thunder as they charge forward.

THe dark fortress's gates yawn open, unleashing a horde of evil to meet the golems, led by massive steel monstrosities that spew a foul, noxious smoke into the sy, clouding the battlefield and forcing the Legion to don these strange, skull like rubber and glass masks with large filtration devices attached, for fear of choking to death on the foul black smog. Each machine was twice the size of a golem, but much faster, and equipped with a pair of oversized morning stars.

Eloth dons a mask as well, as he shouts an order

Red golems go forth!

Smaller red golems quickly rush forward from the rest, as they quickly leap into the fray-the moment they get hit or latch onto their oppenent, they explode, killing their opponents or badly damaging them. Eloth shouts again

Blue golems go! Yellow golems finish them!

Blue golems step up, freezing the wet ground causing the enemy to slip and fall. Yellow golems unleash large blasts of lightning to fry the enemy as they are soaked in rainwater and made of steel.

Now Melee golems storm forth and finish off stragglers. Once that's done storm the gates!

Normal looking golems go forward to join in melee.

A series of explosions rock the earth, and suddenly a yawning pit opens up between the charging golems and the main bulk of the dark horde. Hundreds of miles below the surface, a ribbon of glowing magma awaits those who fall. And then a storm of great harpoons made of some otherworldly black metal commences, launched from the fortress parapets by great ballistae. Those golems and soldiers unfortunate enough to be skewered by the oversized spears were dragged dangling over the pit, where the harpoon head would fold into the shaft, dropping them into the waiting magma. Then, to the right and left flanks of the Legion, the ground seethes and boils, spitting out yet more foul creatures- demons and goblins and trolls, smashing into the army like a crab claw snapping shut. Father back in the fortress, a second line of mortars commences bombardment, causing havoc amongst the Legion's ranks. Eventually, the harpoons stop and the crack seals, and the main force pistons forward, slamming into the Legion's disordered ranks, causing the men to panic and pull back. And then the portal began to flicker and distort, trying to collapse.

From above, the rain pours down even harder, though it quickly turns into hail as Zeph begins freezing the rain as it falls and sharpening it with wind as icicles of holy water impale the unholy abominations-leaving small cuts and punctures into their flesh which lets in more holy energy, quickly sapping the strength of the strong and killing the weaker ones. Veera meanwhile quickly stabilizes the portal. Emily is building more golems, meanwhile Ellen, having blessed all the waters in the area flies downward, and using her ghostly form makes a beeline to where she thinks Dreadbolt is hiding.

The fortress seems to repel her, and meanwhile, the Legion rallies below, pressing forward once again. As the massive army nears the gates, the walls of the fortress are suddenly pierced by hundreds of pinprick holes, from which thousands of gun barrels protrude. The air is shredded by the horrific ratatat of automatic gunfire, the Legion getting mowed down like grass. And then, air support arrives. 24 massive bombers roar through the portal, followed by a steady stream of airships. Flying critters rise up from Dreadbolt's towering walls, but their hide is no match for the .50 cal turrets the bombers sport. They rush over the stronghold, dropping massive payloads on his fortress...but there is little damage to the black walls.

Ellen looks to the fortress, thinks for a moment before flying nearby to the ground

Maybe the walls are enchanted. Lemme try to fly in from below.

Veera, after checking the portal one last time hops over to the fort. She rubs her hands as she gives a devilish grin.

Let's see your little fort survive this.

She slams her hands together, as she teleports a chunk of the fort itself off the rest-before teleporting it a mile into the sky above the fort. Letting it fall to slam back into itself. She shouts to the fort using magic to amplify her voice

I will teleport and slam your very fort against itself Dreadbolt. Sooner or later, we're getting in there. Eloth keep pressing the attack and get your arse in the door.

As the last of the Legion and air support came through, King Lancaster finally made his appearance. He came through the portal...and transformed. Where once stood an aging man in moth eaten silks and wearing a tarnished crown was now a great dragon, larger than even the great "Dragon King" that had once lurked beneath Emily's lair. His scales were a brilliant silver, and great golden spines ran down his back. He roared, shaking the very earth as he jumped into the air, his wings making whirlwinds as they lifted him into the sky.

Eloth and the golems continue to press onward, while Veera manages to rip another chunk off the fort. From below Ellen tries to rise up into it from underground, while Zeph and Emily continue their tasks.
