Carl looks to Jack, and thinks for a moment before speaking to him.

Well didn't Solberg make that weapon and he was a wizard-not a priest. So its more likely to be enchanted rather then blessed.

Brian thinks back to when they got it.

I think Solberg told us it was both actually. He had some priests bless it, but when he couldn't decide what kind of weapon it should be he enchanted it to be able to change. Remember how it was a longsword before you grabbed it Jack? But if your going to toss it over something stupid like a small enchantment like that, give it to someone who will use it instead of wasting it.

Jack shakes his head.

No, I won't throw it away for that.

Brian sighs in relief before speaking.

Good. Its far better in your hands then most men. And to be honest, it's a pretty damn good enchantment Solberg put on it. Able to turn into the weapon your most familiar with-that more or less guarantees that anyone can use it to kill demons. And honestly-any magic that helps kill demons is good magic in my opinion.

A patrol of 8 guards enter the town. looking exhausted and tired. Bill shakes his head.

The 10 men patrol is back. Looks like 2 more lost. I hate having to ask this, but if you men can help end this assault i will be eternally grateful. We just can't keep this up. I will go and talk with the men, and see if we can give you a map of where we believe they come from. Id offer to send men with you, but we need all the guards here in case more show up.

Bill goes and begins talking to the other guards. A nearby woman begins to get some water out of the well she suddenly shouts as a slime emerges from it, latching onto her, the guards rush over and kill the slime but its too late. Bill cautiosly looks down as he unleashes a flurry of curses.

The damn things dug a tunnel into our well. Block it off now. Station a guard at each of the wells in the port.

He goes back to the guards and quickly begins making a map. Brian turns to the others furious.

you know, at one point, if you asked me who I thought was the worst human out there id tell you Veera. But after seeing, she looks like a bloody saint compared to Rhena.

Jack chuckles

Veera's bad, not as bad as "Admiral" Johnson. He was a pirate nearly 50 years ago, he sacked Regis, Vaasburg, St. Martin, and a whole host of others. Never left any survivors, not one. My father was a lieutenant on the British Naval vessel that finally pit him down.

Brian nods

That is pretty bad. But Veera has gotten people to sell her their very souls, she's cursed entire families out of spite.

Carl shrugs.

Honestly lets just say that all 3 of these people are awful and would be better off dead and gone. But for now we should focus on the slimes.

Bill comes back and hands a map to Jack.

That map leads to a cave we believe the slimes come from. Go there, find what's making them, destroy it, and come back. I wish I could send some men with you, but we need to guard the port.

Jack takes the map and orders his men to follow him as he begins to follow the map.

Carl and Brian follow close behind. The sight outside the port is horrific. All the local farms, buildings and roads are nearly completely wiped out, the smell of decay is heavy. The slimes seem to be melting anything and everything they come across-plants, buildings, animals, humans. As they get closer to the cave, slimes begin pouring out in massive numbers, Brian raises his mace and shield, while Carl follows close behind.

Jack and his men draw their swords and begin to attack them, cutting them down. The priest follows suit with his smallsword, except thrusts instead of cuts.

The slimes surge forth, as fast as they can move, though as the guards told them, a solid hit finished most off, and very few manage to kill anyone. After some time, the last of them are slain. Carl looks to his now nearly ruined sword. many other weapons are damaged, a few men died, and a few got injured. Carl looks into the mouth of the cave before sighing.

Guys, remind me to ask Emily later what the HELL is it with magic users and caves.

Brian just sighs.

It is annoying. I am going to hate having to go in there. Lets patch up the wounded, switch out the ruined weapons and put the dead together for when we come back.

As the men get to work gathering the dead Brian says to the others

But from what Emily told me, the reason they like caves so much is because many are rather mistrustful or outright hostile to magic users-so they tend to hide in remote places away from most people-and caves are prime real estate for that purpose.

The priest begins to put on his stole but jack stops him.

Not yet mate, we'll bury them at sea.
