The commandant downs his mug and calls for another

Well, I don't certainly don't wanna try attacking the fort. I saw some of them carrying wagonloads of guns towards the harbor. They've probably raided a good percentage of the guns and powder. I can equip only 30 men. I've got some rifles at home and there might be some in the garrison but that's probably it. What do you think we should do? I propose that we commandeer a dinghy, something small that won't be noticed easily, and we sail it as far as we can to the fleet. We should cause a stink near the fort, nothing grand just some potshots to keep them distracted while the dinghy goes out. If we try to assault it we'll all die. Honestly I'm a bit stuck here what do you think?

The main powder barrel bounces harmlessly away from the galleons. Some explode close to them, doing little to no damage. The men on board are clearly frightened and the ships tack a bit to the side and spread out a bit, hoping to avoid anything else that's been placed there.

Brian sighs as he see's this. But smiles after thinking for a while

They are clearly heading for the port. Which means our ships should be safe. The men staying there can hold the fort so to speak. I say we rush ahead to Kanoni, and warn our friends about this fleet coming. Honestly at this point, they've either already won, or are all dead. We'll know for sure once we see if there's still french ships guarding the port. If they are, we get the hell outta there. If not, we dock and meet up with them. our cutter should be able to easily reach there before these galleons. We'll leave the occasional gunpowder barrel just to keep them awake and alert. If they show up tired as hell, that's gonna help any fighting that goes down.

The ships sail on, rattled though though not seriously perturbed. Jack sets it up so that the guard is changed every two hours or so during the night and sets up a watch in various areas, designed to alert the men of any issues. Jack then goes and crumples into a random bunk, completely exhausted.

Carl wanders the docks for a while, looking for a good replacement for his lost ship, hoping for a similar war galleon, though not being overly picky. After checking the docks he sends his men to bed in the fort, aside from a few watchmen, Carl goes to a bed. Brian meanwhile sails full speed to the port- ignoring sleep for the night, as he barkes some orders to his men

We got some coffee beans right? Make some coffee. We gotta get there and warn them, then we can nap for a while.

In the morning they awake. Jack changes into clean clothes and steps out his bunk and marches up onto the fort. He stands by one of the cannons and watches the sun come up. He looks to one of his men

Have we removed everything we need to?

the man says

Aye sir we have.

Jack says

Good. Alert the men that we'll be preparing to leave today. No drinking

The sailor sighs

Aye aye sir.

Nearby, a lookout calls to Jack

Small cutter comin fast to the port-Think it's that one owned by Brian. Wanna take a look for yerself cap'n.

The lookout offers his spyglass unsure if Jack has one on him, as nearby Brian's cutter begins to sail into the port-having seen that it looks clear Brian calls to his men happily.

Alright men, soon as we dock, be ready to fight in case of a trap, but it looks like the plan worked- so we should be getting some rest soon.

Jack looks at the cutter, nods, and hands the spyglass back to the lookout.

Let's go see what's up. This probably isn't good.

He leaves the fort and marches down the dock to where Brian is

Hello mate. Is there a problem or have you just come to check on us?

Brian nods

Bit of both. I assume you got my letter about a traitor, and how we scared off some ships with an explosion. Well 3 more ships are heading here-reinforcements from kanoni I believe. I left a handful of men back on our ships-to sink them rather then let enemies nab them, though hopefully it doesn't come to that.

3 flag galleons-lotta cannons from what I could tell. Will be here by about 3 o clock based on their speed. I left some powder kegs to scare their men and keep them up all night like me men were, but I doubt it sank or damaged them in all honesty. I'll fill you in on any details I can give you, while my men go ahead and go to bed. I'll join them later, and have Carl wake me up shortly before the ships arrive to help with the fight. We've sailed all night full speed to warn ya.

Jack nods

This isn't good. We've got Dreadbolt and his men hiding out somewhere and now we've got three flag galleons filled with troops coming after us.

Jack scratches his chin

I've got it! We can commandeer some sloops and put them near beach. We can fire on the boats as they come near the shore. There'll be quite a few so it'll make it very difficult for them to land. We can also sail a few around the bay to shoot at the boats as they come ashore. We just might be able to stop them from coming ashore at all. How's that sound?

Dreadbolt thinks for a moment.

We need to destroy the ships in the harbor. Set it all on fire.
