As an example of what police go through and how quick they must make decisions in a situation, watch this video. Sheds some light into it.

Remember, the police have absolutely no idea what type of situation they are walking into when the respond to a call.

I agree with everything but the statement they have no idea. They typically have some sort of idea, if the report for example was for a domestic abuse, they would probably go in much less worried then a report of a suspicious individual who may be armed. Though this can be both help and backfire. Sometimes the info they do get is not entirely accurate.

I have family, cousins and uncles that are police. It does not matter if it is a traffic stop or a domestic disturbance. They are trained to respond the same way. Next time you are pulled over for speeding, watch the police approach your car in your mirror. Their hand will be either on top of their weapon or at the ready to draw. It is how they are trained because even the most seemingly insignificant incident can turn violent extremely quickly.
