Mobiles are getting bigger and larger and expandable screens are the next steps. Then holograms. So as long as we are desktop compatible, we will be mobile compatible too.
For the metrics, the number you see in the registration page, is the number of accounts in Avonmora. These are pruned weekly. Every inactive AND unheard player is pruned. Notorious players though, are not removed, for historical reasons.
Here are the current
general metrics,as they show up at our panel:
- Code: Select all
Accounts Status
Total Accounts 111,160
Total Characters 16,667
Without Character 94,493
Characters flagged Active 6,412
Characters flagged inactive 10,255
What we have took in mind though, when posting this is not this statistic but the
core players number. Guilds number are a good way to determine this although not all members in all guilds are active. We use another way to count
core members: we count their game activity.
Every week, an automatic report is compiled and we study it. This report contains most active players, the total number of core players, the total number of players active this week and more information which help us detect possible scripting and bots usage. This weekly report in the past few months is constantly good while the September ones are better.
Moreover, right after the Fantasy Draft, we noticed a surge in Players Online. This metric suffered during August. There are constantly many players online right now, at all time zones. The moment this happened, proves that this is also due to players work, not just devs.
I could give you whereabout numbers for core members or online members but I do not want to do it. At another game we owned, we used to have detailed online members statistics. Stats where you could even see who is online. At another, we just used to display the people online at that time. At PG, I think at early days, we did the same. Eventually,we decided to avoid these metrics as they are bad for the mentality of the players. The good mentality of a rising number lasts a day. The bad mentality of a dropping number lasts a lot longer.
Furthermore, let us not forget that we compete with games that advertise like as if they have millions of players. Yet, the very same games use worlds consisted of 100 players or less, meaning that there is no massively multiplayer gaming like we have here. This is after all how most games work nowdays. If we worked the same way, based on the people joining per day, we should open a new world every week.
I am speaking the truth, here is the number of player joined in the last 30 days:
- Code: Select all
Last 24 Hours: 20
Last 3 Days: 68
Last 30 Days: 1737
Last 3 days metric is below average. We need at least 35 new signups per day to ensure growth. We control this through advertisement. However, this number is not this important. We could produce better results if 5 players joined and all of them stayed here. As from the 35 joined player, probably none will be here in the long run.
So yes, Sly, player retention is an issue and I vaguely explained why in my first post. We need your help here. The more people caring for active members, the better it will go. I know, it is much to ask so I cannot really ask for this. I am just trying to inform you about it.
A week ago, I read news about another game I knew and even played. Not similar type like PG, a MUD for those aware. MUDs entered this same problem that old-school browser games face, years ago. Few survive today. Since they cost little to maintain, these games are still running but there is none to play them. It is really, a bad feeling.
Given the chance, I personally firmly believe that it is not only interface difficulty that makes old-school browser games, like ours, to have retention issues. It is also the win-win mentality. Many people nowadays only compromise with the very top. This is why newer games create small worlds; more winners. Back in the day, this was not the case. People were playing for fun as well or for purpose or for daily community moments or for winning or for all.
This is what we are trying to achieve here. We got plenty ideas and you got even more. The game is already much improved to what it used to be but it will improve a lot more. This is something we promise, as our display of gratitude for your multi-years support.
