[No Bug] Mission NPC fleet

So I'm doing nation missions and I had to defeat lesser kretos. I did 2 and found the 3rd. I got it down to 0 hp and it was a tie, so I battled again and it upgraded itself into a lesser kretos. A few more battles after this and I would've won, and it has now upgraded into the greater kretos for later missions without giving me points for defeating the lesser kretos...

edit: i went to every other port to see if it was a weird glitch that spawned the greater kretos and the lesser wasn't at another port. i dont care about the gold i lost repairing or the turns i used, just about ranking up @CJ

i defeated it with my better fleet and had to go to another port for the lesser kretos. i'd appreciate not having to do that NPC again if at all possible, cj

You think that one was bad? Admin has been seen with a level 50 kretos in his fleet... now, that is scary...

I've seen it too, never fight it before.

"...And then, a great dragon flew upon my fleets and casted balls of fire down at it... sinking every one of my ships!.."

A quality story ending :D

Back to the issue, here is what happened:

-When you undertake a mission and then cancel it, the monsters/fleets it creates are not disappeared. This is one of the reasons that you need to wait before you can cancel it.

-When you hit the monsters/fleets created by a canceled mission, you get no points.

So here is the first way to know that you are hitting the correct monsters; if they award points or not.
A second way are the portraits at the mission details. As long as a portrait of the enemy is there, he is still on the loose and the foe you just exterminated was just a foe of a previous undertaken mission.

Foes are only spawned for a reason, they want to meet you at the battlefield. They will not leave just because you canceled a mission! So the only way not to find an enemy is to ignore him for a fairly long time. In this case, the portrait will disappear and you will have no enemy to hit. In this case, you need to cancel and take the mission again.
