At about 12:00, as mere specks, three flag galleons appear on the horizon.

Carl immediately turns his ship around and as he sails back to harbor he alerts the rest of the ships that the enemy is close. He barks some orders to his men as he marches to the fort with them, to wake up Brian and to prepare for the battle.

Jack and his men prime their cannons and wait for the boats to start coming in. They load muskets and place them in areas where they can be easily reached.

Brian and his men quickly make sure the fort's cannons are loaded, and the gate is secured. Carl keeps watch from a spyglass as the 3 ships slowly arrive.

At around 1:00 the flag galleons hoist their sails and weigh anchor, far out of reach of the port's cannon. Around 30 boats filled with soldiers begin rowing towards the shore. They can't spot the sloops hiding behind one of the large rocks near the shore. Jack raises his hand at his men and whispers:

Mates, get ready to move towards them. We'll have to be quick.

The sun begins to beat down heavily on everyone outside. At around 2:30, Jack says

Shove off.

The 6 sloops move out behind the rock towards the approaching soldiers and hoist English colors. Jack's sloop bears it's 6 pound cannon on a rowboat and fire. Six balls tear through the boat's passengers, killing half of them. The other sloops begin to sail around firing into the rowboats with round shot, keeping well out of the range of the soldier's muskets. A few of the boats have a swivel gun mounted on the end but that is little use. Soon the air is covered with smoke. The echoes of cannon fire and futile musket fire echo around the bay. Soon a third of the boats have been destroyed. The men abandon them, get on their comrades boats and row back to their big ships. Jack's men unleash a cheer. Jack wipes his the soot off his face and grins.

Well done lads. I believe we're nearly done here. We'll have a small tot of rum and then we'll sail out.

Carl watches from the port, as he starts thinking, before quickly rushing to Jack-After running and taking a small rowboat to meet up with him he quickly asks

Jack, Quick idea I had, this fort is pretty powerful, and I know you want your side to win this war, so before we leave you wanna blow it up? I can get started on that right now. Losing that fort would be a nasty blow-would make this port far easier to take and might force them to build new ships elsewhere. Or, if you would prefer less damage, we could just blow up all the cannons. Or would you prefer to just leave? Ooh, or maybe we could intimidate those buggers on their ships-tell them if they surrender one of those flags to me, we WON'T blow up the fort. I would very much like to seize one of those ships for my own use. Up to you though mate-you're the leader of this raid, so I'll respect whatever decision you make.

Jack wipes his forehead on his sleeve

They’re almost certainly not going to give one ship away for this fort. It’s one of the largest in Avonmora and was a pain to construct.

Jack grins

We should blow it up. It won’t harm the city below end it will certainly effect French power in these waters. Also, with the money we’ve captured, you’ll have enough to pay for two ships and still have half left over.

Jack wipes his forehead again

Thanks for idea mate. It’s a good one.

Carl nods

Thanks, I get tons of ideas-most of them bad, but a few good ones pop up. Thankfully I got you and Brian to help sort them out. I'll go back and start planning the best way to blow up the fort, just give the word or a signal when it's time to leave. You think the flags are gonna retreat now? Could send a message to ask if they wanna parley. Or they might send one first. I'd rather not be stuck here for too long. More ships may come, and we still got that traitor running around.

Carl nods.

Sure thing.

Carl quickly hops into a ship with a few men and begins heading out to the flags-waving the flag as he does so.
