Really? They enjoy newbie protection. And while small, they are not interesting targets. Most quit long before they get to the point where anyone attacks them.

They need to join a guild. Also, they need to NOT get SoLs as newbies. That's among the first thing I tell recruits at T'zak Ryn. Another name for a newbie with SoLs is "a target".

I think most quit early because they joined to play a pirate game, and the see no action in their early game play. To see action, you need to join a guild, you need to first learn the game by growing, and then you need to find out what action is possible. And do that with your guild, NOT alone. But to get to that point takes time. And it also requires that the new players actually chat. I find that players who join our guild early, and is active in guild chat and responds to personal messages, are far more likely to stay in the game than others.

yup. Why hit a newbie who has less then 100 ships with most being cheap ones? Typically it's either because the newbie hit first, or they got a nice ship and were an easy target.

Folks need to understand when you start a new game, ESPECIALLY a multiplayer one, you should learn how to play asap. You should also understand that if you're new to the game, you should not pick a fight against someone who has years of experience over you-especially if you stand to lose something. I was never good at FPS games. If I decided to play one, I would not want to go up against an expert in said genre. Likewise in an RPG, I would not want to fight a boss while my character is level 1. You need to understand your limits you know?

I guess I'll use this moment to give a shout out to Captain da Vinci, Kangaroo, Wally and a few others from ATC who helped me through my first months playing PG. Without their help I probably would have quit early on.

I'm not even sorry; I've stolen multiple sotls from newbs.
What I do try to however, is teach them a thing or two afterwards - sometimes, if they're in a guild, I tell their leader; This player could use some practice in *this* and *this* - I have this from him/her:
If said player learns, I might hand it back.

Some take it as a fair lesson, others get nasty. The attitude, depends on the outcome. Lol

Noob helper. Few things aids new players as much as them making mistakes, and having others tell you what you did wrong.
