Carl nods but pats Jack's shoulder

Don't worry mate. We'll get this bugger and make him pay. I'll write up a few letters see if I can round up some privateering friends to join us if need be. Me and Ryan will just hang out while we wait for more folks to come by. Oh, just to fill you in, got 4 ships at the moment. The flag that I got as a reward, a War galleon, a trade galleon and a cutter. I like to use the cutter to scout and the trade as bait.

jack nods

Thanks mate. We'll need as many men as we can possibly get. We've managed to get a lot sloops and brigs, some trade galleons too. They've been taking those trade galleons and cutting gun ports into them. As a matter of fact they're cutting in as many ports as they can in various ships, for free. If there's any extra space they find a way to put a gun in it. The carpenters and the gunsmiths have been harmed by this man the most financially, so they, pretty much like anyone else, have a real itch to fight this man.

Jack's brow furrows

The real problem is the lack of big ships. We need more frigates and flag and war galleons. If we can't get at least six we'll have to build some. It's why the coalition was beaten so badly. They for some silly reason thought they could fight the pirates with brigs and sloops with just one small 28 gun frigate. They assumed they'd all be too drunk. Usually that's a good assumption but it was a really really stupid one here.

Jack sits at the table and sighs. He pours two glasses of wine from a bottle and hands them to the two men before pouring his own. More captains come in, two have brought heavy ships. One's brought a flag galleon of 44 guns, and another brings a frigate of 54 guns.

From seemingly no where, John moves forward from a dark corner of the room.

Seems you are in need of some heavy hitters. I may be able to spare a couple of heavies. My 52 gun Large Frigate and my 68 gun Ship of the Line just finished their scheduled maintenance and are still in dock.

A slight sly grin appears

Of course, I assume there is some sort of compensation being offered.

Carl nods

How much is expected to be in their loot? They are pretty successful pirates, so should be a good haul. Honestly, I'm mostly in this just to fight and have some thrills, so money's not too big a deal for me, but I do need to cover expenses for me crew and ships. Also any bounties on any of these men, or are the nations too busy and scared to do so?

Carl looks to John

You were that fellow we met after a raid a while back. Jim? Joan? No wait John, I think it was. Any help will be nice. If the payment isn't enough by the end for you, I can chip in some of my share to sweeten the deal for you. Again, after expenses are covered most my money goes off to friends and charity. I do this mostly for the thrill.

Carl laughs a little and introduces Ryan

Jack takes out his pipe and lights it.

The haul should be quite good, yes. Though everyone who’s coming here is doing so that they’re not declared pirates and hunted down later themselves.

More captains begin walking in, signing there names and leaving.

And then the inevitable happens. A familiar, egotistical, extremely overdressed man with a spike for a hand entered the room, a sleazy smirk on his face revealing tobacco-stained teeth.

Now, before you all shoot me, let me explain myself. I betrayed you lot at Baramas chasing what I wanted- a bigger reward. Not out of any malicious intent against you, but my greed. Plus you've already made me pay rather dearly, sinking my darling Gunsway like that. Now, I have several interests to protect- shipping routes, plantations, and my title of french Admiral. Luckily for you, protecting them means killing Myngs. I have a 70 gun ship of the line in the harbor, with a ram mounted. I could be of great service, if you'll have me.

Jack's face goes white with rage. He opens his mouth to say something, and then closes it. He does this twice more and he calms down. He mutters something and then says through clenched teeth, barely controlling himself.

Sign piece of paper on the desk, Admiral.

Carl speaks up

To help ensure your loyalty and that you don't backstab us again, and to help ensure loyalty all around, why not have all captains switch around their 2nd in commands? The 2nd will stick to the captain and make sure they don't do nothing to rat us out? Ryan can go with Dreadbolt, I trust old Ryan with me life at this point. Jack, you can switch 2nd's with John.

I have no plans to betray you this time, so I see no problem with it.

The greaseball admiral's sleazy smirk only got wider as he swaggered across the room to the table, signing the paper with a flourish before swaggering right bac out, his every step oozing arrogance and ego- he even had the audacity to pause at the door and wiggle his fingers at them.

Au revoir, mes amis!
