(Rare) Scurvy

Scurvy would affect both crew and passengers. There could be a high mortality rate.
Affected ships would be reduced in speed and defence as there would be few crew remaining healthy enough to man the vessel.

This would have to be a long time period effect - 72 hours or whatever may be a maximum limit.

The British Navy introduced limes and lemons into the rations to provide vitamin C (the lack of which caused the scurvy in the first place).
Hence the nickname: limeys for British sailors.
Therefore maybe British fighting vessels may be immune to this card.

Passengers (immigrants) would be lost.

Open this idea for discussion and maybe other attributes could be included.
Historically this was a major killer on long sea voyages.

Welcome to forum. For first post it is a nice suggestion.

Maybe if you wouldnt remove the curse you shouldnt be able to hire more crew or use instant travel. and this way it would be more precious i guess. maybe too overpower dunno:)

But at least it should have some differences compare to rotten food.

I would say this card could be used, but with some revisions/restrictions

I would interpret this as very similar to Swarm of Worm

Rare
8 Turns
24 hour duration
An infectious outbreak of Scurvy has run amock on your ships. You will lose 5% of your crew per hour for 24 hours. But the crew will never drop below the minimum level to sail a ship (15 crew members)

This would make the speed of the boat much less and could be a big factor in PvP.

On the flip side, a "Cure" or "Heal" card would need to be introduced, much like Royal Aux is for Swarm of Worms

Western Medicine
Uncommon
8 Turns
Heals sick passengers...

It's a nice idea and well documented and I can verify the historical data.

A potential issue is that we do not want to mess with crew a lot, not before we have an easy way to reinstate it. Back in the day, before the Halt on Danger fleet ability, this was never a case. It still is an issue hard to touch but I cannot rule it out. Especially when we have ideas for ship abilities that will target crew in battle.

A final issue is that when it comes in voodoo cards, we are mostly looking for super cards right now; for the witch hut.

However, the concept (scurvy) is too good to ignore. It would be good to have it in some way.

Scurvy was suggested by Meliva in Jun of 2016 http://www.piratesglory.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2188 with the below statement being made by Captain Jack:

Captain Jack wrote:Voodoo that eliminated ship crew cannot be implemented.

Since crew plays a role in optimizing fleet speed, any voodoo that eliminates crew will result in irritating gameplay. Even in the case that the player has not optimized, it is still a nuisance. Imagine someone casting this to you and imagine that you have 50 fleets.

What we could do would be to affect Crew but not eliminate it. For example, as long as the enchantment is active, crew efficiency drops by 50%.
Still, this needs more ship specialization first before it can play a role important enough to be incorporated into a voodoo card.

Is this now changing?

thanks dez for bringing my old suggestion up so I didn't have to, a good name for a counter to scurvy that I also suggested would be Lime lunches. since lime, as jubo pointed out british sailors commonly used. I would love for there to be a scurvy card, afterall whats a pirate game without a little scurvy :D. another old suggestion was my idea for a black spot voodoo card, I'm gonna have to look it up and bring it up for discussion again.
