And exhibition battles

On this day you can elect to place danger on selected fleets that belong to you, to place them on a plunder board in their current port.
They can be added or removed at any time during the event.
The danger will not increase or drop via battle.
Battles will not result in gc or fame gain or loss.
Battle reports will generate as a normal battle.
Ship damage and level loss will restore to pre battle level after every battle.
If you are in a crowded port and are not showing on the plunderboard. 1 credit will raise your danger 1 point,
The more you invest the higher your danger.
This is essentially buying your position on the plunder board.
If you want to be at the top, or if you are in a crowded port and just want to show up. Since you cannot see your own position you may need to ask a freind what your position is, or if you are showing up in a crowded port.
This might be important if someone is trying to find you for a planned fight.
You may also attack your guildmates during the event.
Attacking will yeild no hostillity or honor points.

Basically you can show off any fleet or fleets you wish.
And fight anyone with no fear of losing or damaging favorite ship or fleet.

At the end of the event any danger added during the event is cleared.

This idea has my full support! I love the idea of dusting off the old MoW and showing them off. Plus I want to smack Pro and Banger with them. Excellent idea One Eye!
I don't fear death. I look forward to it with great anticipation. For then I will met God face to face and let him know that I stole his Man of War!!!

Of course, the suggestions are lovely jubbly for pirates : but what of the nation-flagged privateers who will also be denied their daily ration of shiny shiny plunder?

Given how many of the top plundering positions are held by exactly such folk, then it seems a tad unfair that they be denied plunder for the day but do not get any recompense in the memorialising event.

Indeed, they, like any other nation-flagged phat trader, may well end up as sitting targets for the black flag crowd.

But then what has fairity ever had going in its favour...

Seems like you're just looking for something to complain about mate. A lot of these suggestions are not pirate exclusive at all. Have you actually read most of them? I am legit curious why you seem to think privateers are getting shafted.

Pardon me for breathing : majority of the suggestions are pirate-biased, as they should be. I merely point out that not all plunderers are pirates and they will suffer equally under the 24hr no-plunder reset.
So, when considering how to recompense the more obvious losers from that reset maybe we should not forget the other happy plunderers as well.

Sorry if that sounds like complaining to you. It sounds like contributing to the discussion to me. I guess some voices sound sweeter in your ear than others.

Personally, I rather like Williams excellent suggestion. I woukd certainly drag the Dark Sisters out for that. But it dont address the loss of plunder for plunderers over the 24hr reset, does it? In fact, it is rather biased against pirates who tend not to operate such power fleets.

No doubt they will contribute their own opinion on that. This one is mine and just as relevant as any others.

Mate, the majority of suggestions so far are beneficial to both privateers and pirates. I don't mind if you wish to state your opinion, but if you are going to make a statement that I can clearly see is not true, then I'm going to point that out if I feel like it.

You seem to do a whole lot of assuming. You seem to think that just because I asked you why you think the suggestions so far are giving privateers the shaft(which, most of them are not) that I'm trying to silence you, or invalidate your opinion. You are free to say whatever you want so long as no rules are broken, just as I am free the same right.

I lean towards Willy 1eye's suggestion and would like to see something like that explored on a deeper level.
After all, we do have a year to jaw it out and implement it.

Please highlight the complaint you speak of. I offered an opinion that any solution should address the needs of the whole player-base and not work on an assumption that only pirates will suffer under the reset conditions. I made no statement that all the suggestions favoured one part of the player-base or another. In your opinion the majority make no difference. In my opinion they will in practical terms for how does one differentiate between pirates and privateers? By a flag. How does one differentiate which flagged players are privateers. And so on. How we define terms matters in deciding who shall benefit and who shall not.

Plunderers will suffer under the reset plunder lockdown. How that is recompensed for in future years is debatable and fraught with issues of fairity in how it is set up.

I may be flying the black myself by then. Others flying the black today may have decided to dabble in nations and the political aspects of the game. Are we included or excluded regardless of how we played in the years previous?

If our choice is that one part of the player base is made an easier victim to enable another part to benefit, be it pirate or privateer, how fair is that when either player may not have even been here for the reset lockdown? What is the attacker being recompensed for? Why is the target deemed liable to a penalty for an act they never benefited from.?

So, we need to find a memorialising event that offers goodies in recompense for both the players of today and yet does not piss off the players of next year and the year after.

That is not a simple matter of A loses the chance to gain X for one day thus C, D and Uncle Tom Cobbkey and all must get the chance to double that once year ever after.

Disagreement is not complaint. Offering opinion is not complaint. Suggesting potential issues is not complaint. Otherwise put up the 'approved' suggestion with a simple yes/no vote on it and lock the thread to stop commentary on it.

Lastly, cut the personal issues which so clearly exist between us but which in this case, exist far more on your side than on mine.. Your opinion is as valid as mine but not more so. I do not post to gain your approval or admiration. Your approval or disapproval is not some measure which gives my posts more or less weight. I hope that mine has no more bearing on yours. We disagree. Get over it.

That right there is the complaint I speak of first of all. Now, while tone can't be seen through text, so text can sometimes be misinterpreted , this statement that you made seems to me that you are complaining that the suggestions are good for pirates, but not for pirvateers. I told you that the suggestions thus far were good for both pirates and privateers for the most part, and you clearly took it the wrong way.

And once more, I would recommend you don't make so many assumptions. I called out the fact that what you said-that the suggestions thus far were unfair to privateers, was not true. I am not saying your opinions are not valid, I am not saying you need my approval for jack crap. I am literally saying, that the suggestions so far, are beneficial to both pirates and privateers, and that you statement about privateers being treated unfair, was wrong.

Again, in the quote above, you literally stated
it seems a tad unfair that they be denied plunder for the day but do not get any recompense in the memorialising event.

Now if you want to debate that the suggestions thus far are not fair to the player as a whole, then sure, most the suggestions thus far are not too beneficial for merchants.

I really don't care if we disagree-I disagree with a lot of folks quite often, though I would appreciate if you would stop with all the assuming. I disagree with you once, and you go on a tirade. Sure, I said you were complaining-that's how I read your text. Since as the definition reads.

To express feelings of pain, dissatisfaction, or resentment.

You clearly were not satisfied with some of the suggestions, hence why you posted about how you felt they were unfair. That's a complaint. Now, why you seem so offended about me stating you were complaining I don't know, complaints, like disagreements are part of adult life. I'm complaining about how you keep making assumptions. Regardless, if you want to continue debating me, we can do so in PM's and get back on topic. I won't be talking anymore of this in this forum. Or if you want to do so in public, feel free to make a thread for it.

On that note of back on topic, here's another suggestion for the holiday- Double turn regen for everyone for the day for free.

Mel : you need to chill. To offer a view is not to complain that it has not been offered already. Nor is it an expression of disatisfaction with any previous view expressed. Nor is it an expression of pain nor is it one of resentment. It is offered in addition to the general debate already taking place.

If we are going to get into deconstructing my sentences then we can start of by my use of tge words 'Seems to be a tad unfair' : seems = to give the appearance of... tad= small, so.. it could give the appearance of being slightly unfair... hardly a damning indictment along the lines of 'j'accuse' and no pain, resentment nor dissatisfaction was felt whilst writing it.

Was it a fully fledged proposal with every 'i' dotted, 't' crossed and every nuance of expression cross-checked and approved by a linguistic scholar specialising in absolutism. Nope. Typing on a phone keyboard is enough of a pain in the nut (cockney term for head).

It was a comment. In a thread. On topic. Right, wrong or indifferent. It matters not. That's the basis of the concept of free speech. May not agree but I defend your right to say it and all that good stuff.

The thrust of my posts has been that it is not a simple A=B so we do C problem.

William's proposal has great merit because it steps aside from those awkward and somewhat abstract meanderings that lead to charges of unfairness.

I think his proposal does not only work as a memorialising event, it could be the basis for a regular 'event' with differing qualification rules that could include all the player-base and allow us all to have some fun and not just toss a few extra coins in whatever direction is deemed worthy.

Have a nice day. Seriously.
