[Review] new guy message

Postby Brazzler » Wed Jan 13, 2016 4:34 am

When a new player joins they get multiple messages form active players to say hello. These are automated. My problem with these is that we can't see what the automated message said. Not sure if it is a bug or not but I would like to see what I supposedly said.

I have come to the point where I don't respond any more as I don't know what I was meant to have said in the first place.

For example, I got a message from a new player a couple of hours ago that said "yes". How am I meant to respond to that if I don't know what I said?

So I would like to suggest that the machine is altered a bit so we can see the automated messages as well.

I somewhat agree Brazz. I do not like the idea of a bot using my name and not knowing what words are being "put in my mouth"
After numerous questions I realize these bots are trying to be helpful and not demeaning my character but I still send apologies to people for the bot acting on my behalf.
On the other hand, it is useful for recruitment.

It is useful. I do like it. But it is a pain when you don't know what you are meant to have said.

The message should contain a line like this : 'This is an automated greeting sent by the system : the named sender has not seen the contents'.

Messages are simple, like "Ahoy there" or "If you need any help, let me know"
-It would get spammy for you to receive a message when a newcomer comes.
-If you do not want bots using your name for the first message, you can turn it off through your options "New Player in Pirates Glory"
-Including the message sent by the bot can be done, but we want a better system anyway.

Allow some time for this, to see if we are replacing it with another way (ie global chat menu) before we attempt to improve it.

I really have no problem with it currently as long as the bot is not saying "join this guild or die!"
That line, I think has been copyrighted already.
It could say though "Stan Rogers is on line and offered to help. Click here to ask him something" where it then Instant messages me with a question if the newcomer has a question.

It really is a great idea to let new players know there is instant help available if they want it

I like the current system. I do agree that I should know what it says but at this point I have a pretty good idea of what it says as a list has been released before so I know that if they say, "yes," I most likely asked if they needed help. If they say, "hi," I most likely said something like, "Ahoy there." So I think it's fine.

Probably when the player sends the message it is stored in your history.
When I start a conversation I see it in the history. So all those who have recieved messages from players recently who they are talking to find the name and click history tell me if it works or not. As I am a beginner I don't get those.
