I was thinking they have a voodoo auction, why not put in ship auction that you can get credits or gold out of? This would make it easier for people to get ships, and get a better amount of credit circulation in the voodoo market and throughout the game.

What about the players that will dump several hundred dollars in the game and get sotls at fame 0?

This will completely destroy all the hard work in the game if it were using credits.

Gold on the other hand would make the bigger players even bigger (considering they have millions in gold and treasure). It would make the bigger players able to get an army of sotls and not do any hardwork.

This will completely destroy chances for any new player to be able to fight against anyone else.

exactly a point that would just make the bigger players the only ones to benefit.

So best case scenario, the noob in question dumps lotsa money in the game, buys ship. now they still have to get gold to pay for crew and upkeep, or they would immediately lose the ship to the sea, or have someone else take it with a tidal wave (after they lose it), or a big player takes it with commandeer before they can even use it.
