The upgrades are the most important part of a ship, this is why leveling up is expensive.

Roll over your mouse over each ship upgrade to see what they do. We do not have exact formulas for battle yet but I read somewhere that this is within the developer plans. What we know is through descriptions mostly and our experience. Some attributes also affect ship speed.

For example, a good upgrade idea for a merchant ship is Cotton Sails that will increase the ship speed while a good upgrade idea for a war ship would be round shot (As it seems to affect the "weapon" of your ship, for those that are aware of rpg-dnd battles).

Ultimately, you will found out that ship upgrades can play a massive role in battles; a poorly constructed lvl 10 ship of the line, may even lose to a well constructed frigate.

PS: For each level up, you gain 3 to 5 attributes (it is random) so this also results in different ship builds. With Master Craftmanship card, you can add 1 attribute point to a ship.

Yeah, upgrades are really important for combat ships but are less important for trade ships. By leveling up to 2 or 3 you can get a trade ship with 10 sails which speeds up its journey and gives you more profit/hour. It might not be neccessary though if you already need to reduce your crew number to keep the trip more than 1 hour.

Nope. The cargo capacity is defined only by what ship type it is. There was a suggestion to have a voodoo card that allows you to add cargo capacity but it hasn't been added at this point.

guys I am planning about buying trde gallon now...I have enough money but i seriously doubt about the speed of the ship.
Can you tell me these detail:
1.Speed of the ship
2.cost of increasing level

And I am also considering large merchanman.
well the upkeep is low for largemerchantman but the cargo is low compared to trade gallon, but If i can increase the speed of trade gallon as much as a howker with the cotton sails then I shall buy trade gallon itself.

any advice guys?

Sai92, The Large Merchantmen are excellent trade ships. You can upgrade the sails to speed up the trade galleon by 1% for each sail point (so 10% total) but even then it is moving at only 50% the speed of the Large Merchantmen. The only gain is ~17% more cargo space (140 instead of 120), but at 50% slower it's not as good as the Large Merchantmen.

You cannot degrade a warehouse. Once you pay the gold it is built and there forever.
