selling gold bars is a loss. Cost of production at level two (if you include the cost of resources is 2913 gc each) this doesn't include the lost revenue from the fleets required to get the resources to your hideout. I can sell gold bars for 2910 gc each. therefore, unless the price changes and the market is allowed to run it's appropriate course, I imagine holding my bars and using them to upgrade my hideout buildings is the only reasonable course.

I have heard rumors that customers of the Iron Bank get preferential access to fresh-minted bars on far better terms than that, MM... I'm not sure how the clown costume and boiled rhubarb relates to that, but the rumor did mention them as well...

A fair price is subjective. As to black market, a true black market would allow direct sales between players without the vig. (the inherent difference between sell/purchase price when selling bars on the market) I may be ignorant of another means of transferring GB between players.
