Carl nods in response as he shouts

Got it. I got an idea. Benny you and your group help me with this, the rest of you cover us!

He leads his men into quickly seizing one of the cannons Dreadbolt brought with them, and begin loading it with the gunpowder he and his men had left over. They quickly rush it forward as the men depart the longboats and fire a single volley, killing a good chunk of the men. Carl shouts laughing

Better row back to your ships, or we'll fire another volley! Load it again men!

The sailors thinking it impossible to land ashore in that area leave to land somewhere else.

Using the attackers as a distraction, Dreadbolt makes his way to the commandant, shoving a hastily written note into his hand- it read as follows

i have a plan. We find a way to signal the ships to prepare their mortars, and on our retreat, bomb the attackers to oblivion.

The commandant kills a privateer with a pistol, hides behind a crate, and scrawls a note on a piece of cloth. A soldier manages to find dreadbolt and hands him a message:

We can't bomb them with mortars they can't get close enough. We need to regroup. Follow me into the city and meet me at a tavern with red doors. Can't miss it.

The commandant barks an order and a man begins to wave a white flag. The French have surrendered.

Carl shouts at the men waving the flags

Throw your weapons down. And we want the commander to hand over his sword to Jack here to prove the battle is over.

Carl whispers to Jack.

Should we quickly seize the fort, or what's or next move? I don't know about this. Also, I think me and some men will set the forest on fire to burn Dreadbolt out. I would very much like to see him dead. I don't much care for traitors.

Jack whispers back

Right. The fort's the next move. If we can control it, we've won. And I would strongly recommend not setting the forest on fire, we might burn down the city.

The Commandant orders that the men drop the weapons. Jack says

And you're cartridges. Men, take them.

The privateers who don't have rifles take them, they also replenish their personal powder and shot from the soldiers. The Commandant hands Jack his sword, Jack hands it to a crewman. Jack looks around at everyone, including the French

You all put up a fine fight. No drinking men.

The privateers all collectively groan

Not a drop. I need everyone here to be as alert as they can possibly be.

Carl nods

Good point. Let's quickly take the fort then. After a few valleys from it hitting their ships, that should scare them off. Should we do so now, or what's our next move?

Jack grins

It's on to the fort next. This should be easy.

Jack looks to some men

Escort the soldiers and the Commandant to the local courthouse. Lock them in it and guard the place.

a good percentage of Jack's men march into the port with the soldiers in tow. Citizens bolt in terror when they see them. The remaining soldiers, about 800, are locked in the courthouse, 20 guards are placed there. The rest come back. Jack points at the fort, it's less than a mile away. Only two sentries can be seen on the walls. Jack looks to carl

It's almost certain that they'll just surrender. They can't possibly win. It's as easy as eating a ships's biscuit

Jack grimaces

bad analogy.
