The man nods furiously at the first question, but seems reluctant on the second count.

"Many have offered to slay the beast, but all have failed. I am reluctant to send yet more adventurers to die."

Brian laughs a little

Well Ellen is a ghost-so if nothing else we can just let her kill the damn thing-what's it gonna do-kill a ghost? What's this monster like anyway?

The man shudders, his eyes fearful.

A truly massive hound with many eyes, matted brown fur, and rotted hide. Its mane and tail are a mass of writhing black tentacles. Its claws are sharper than any blade in Heaven, Hell, or in between, the strength of its bite strong enough to cleave through a dragon's hide. It speaks in maddening riddles, its roars filled with anguish and hate. Beneath its foul exterior, it hides the strength of a hundred men, and a hatred of life foul enough to make the Devil pull back. It bends reality at will, and hides in a rotten maze of buzzing yellow halls.

Brian nods

Sounds like quite the monster. Has the emperor been too busy with other matters to send some soldiers to kill it, or is it just too much of a hassle? Regardless, just point us to where it's lair is and we'll try to kill it for you.

The man hurriedly draws an approximate route on Brian's map before retreating into his home, which was followed by the sound of clunking locks and scraping furniture.

Hey, we found out a monster lives nearby. Ellen and I plan to kill it. Wanna come help us? Should be a good challenge before we continue our voyage.

Checking his pistols and the edge on his blade, Jack agrees.

Sounds like a good bit of fun- I'll do it.

Ellen nods

Alright. Let's head over to its lair then. I'll take point, Brian watch our back with Carl. Be on guard, this beast is dangerous.

Ellen quickly begins heading to the lair of the beast, while Brian and Carl follow from behind, both watching their surroundings.

Following the map out of town, they venture into the swampy surroundings, the humid air and mucky ground making slow progress. It is nighttime by the time the group arrives at the cave entrance, bones crunching underfoot, animal and human alike. Jack's head is on a swivel, flintlock swinging up at every noise.

Ellen reaches a hand out and light shines forth from it, illuminating the cave somewhat. She goes in, watching her surroundings as she readies her mace. Brian and Carl both follow in a short distance behind her, ready to fight at a moment's notice.
