Yep, the facts which are always crystal clear in 20/20 hindsight.
I blame the organisers for not being all online 24/7 to deal with the totally expected chaos when a captain bails out with ten minutes notice.
Yep. We all saw that one coming.

the format dictated and announced 5 teams as the prize payout shows

1st Place Team - 100,000,000 Gold Coin
2nd Place Team - 50,000,000 Gold Coin
3rd Place Team - 25,000,000 Gold Coin
4th Place Team - 10,000 000 Gold Coin
5th Place Team - 1 Shiny Credit (to be sold and divided equally)

of course everyone in your thinking should get a trophy so we can do away with the credit payout and make everyone a winner

captains have turned down being captains as they did this time and as hard as it is for you to imagine they found a replacement
youre right though a second one would have been earth shattering and required more time than it was worth to adhere to the format as it was presented
imagine a second replacement bahhhh fools always asking the impossible :D :D :D

I do agree that it would have been better to delay a couple days to get a new captain. Regardless, I still enjoy the draft, even if it's not quite the same.

edit-also I think we should be a bit lenient and patient with the team-this be the first time they handled the draft, so it's bound to have a few errors and mistakes. Just hope they learn from this and get better.

They've been planning this for a while, hell it was brought to attention when I ran PR.

With everything going on, covid and excitement to do another draft, it's bound to have mess ups.

You know, we never knew if another draft was coming. It may not have ever happened again. Shadow was ready to shut it down.

Be grateful the PR team is keeping a tradition, no matter if it has a few missing screws. The ship sails on.

Thank you Edward and Jose, and Shadowood for such an amazing event

I will say this, I do think that it's fine to criticize the draft, and point out things you disagree with. Just do so respectfully. After all, if no one talked about how they felt going on with just 4 teams wasn't a good idea, then this could happen repeatedly. But what's done is done. Next draft, hopefully they learn from this one that it be preferred to delay a little bit then to go with less captains.

tradition

tra·di·tion
/trəˈdiSH(ə)n/
noun
1.
the transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on in this way.

A mother is making meatloaf with her teenage daughter; a ritual they’ve been doing together for years. As part of the tradition, the two chefs cut the ends of each side of the meatloaf before putting it in the oven. One day, the teen asks, “Mom, why do we cut the ends off the meatloaf before we put it in the oven?”

Taken by surprise, the mom began to think. She had no good reason, other than that’s how her own mother did it and that was the way she learned. Together, the two called up grandma. “Grandma, why do we cut the ends off each side of the meatloaf before putting it in the oven?” After a brief laugh, the Grandmother admitted that she didn’t know the answer either. It was the way her own mother taught her. Tradition. It turns out her mother was living in a nearby nursing home, so they all went to visit.

Upon hearing the question, the 98-year-old great grandmother roared with laughter. “I have no idea why you are cutting the ends off the meatloaf! I used to do it only because I didn’t have a big enough pan!”

changing the method to pick captains can be considered the ends of the meatloaf but the second you change the ingredients its not a traditional recipe and while i have not attacked the planners i do find the action of losing a team as changing the recipe and would rather see a new event than lose a traditional event that did so well for one that did not do so well

i would have hated not to see it at all but i would have preferred that over this simply because the community backing shadows creation became something out of the ordinary and to see it not function correctly casts a shadow on the original

start the great sloop race
the best original story
then celebrate that

that part of shms assessment that i agree with

It's called a contingency plan. You plan for the worst case and strive for the best. Shadowood did. He had backup captains.

As I said before, this be the first draft under the PR team. They will learn from their mistakes in this draft, especially if the community provides constructive criticism, and therefore the next will be far better.

I will agree-that this is so far my least favorite draft. Still better then no draft in my opinion, and I have faith and confidence that the next one will be far better.

I agree with lets go with what we have and enjoy it.

I am confused about what would become the prize distribution tho.
12 other folk will miss out on a little boost while the other 4 teams get the bonus?

Anne Bonney suggested dtt pick a team from those left on the board when he returns and distribute as fit.
This way, they take 5th place by default and all that goes with it...there is no unfair distribution of prizes and all else sails on normally.

Thanks to Shadowood for the Draft, thanks to the guys stepping up and doing their best. It is appreciated even if we do ask questions and whinge a little sometimes...well...speaking for myself..

Good luck everyone...lets not dampen the fun!

I mean, what's the point in having a fifth team go to default? Not to mention him having to pick just the leftovers is unfair really. It's a dang shame, but just too late to fix in my opinion.

We can fix the 12 getting left out by giving the 4 captains 3 extra picks. And take 5th place and divvy it up to the other 4.
